Staff scientist (AC-TAP) in Archaeology/Zooarchaeology at Globe Institute

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent staff scientist for a limited period of 5 month to support our efforts in archaeology/zooarchaeology, to commence August 2020.



Your job

The position includes working as a zooarchaeologist and project managing the ArchaeoScience Unit, which advises and carries out scientific analysis for the archaeological museums in Denmark. Furthermore, the position include a research component on the domestication process and the the transition from hunting and gathering to agriculture, in the central Zagros. The right applicant therefore has a strong track-record in the analysis and publication of faunal remains, including the ability to carry out research and contribute to published and unpublished reports on materials from Denmark and the Middle East. The person appointed to the position will partly analyse various faunal remains, but will need to understand and promote other relevant science analysis as required, as well as running the unit and collaborate with partners within the University and beyond. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to continue the development of the ArchaeoScience Unit, as well as develop a personal research profile.

You will be expected to contribute to and participate in the ongoing research project Tracking Cultural and Environmental Change (TCEC) located at Centre for the Study of Early Agricultural Societies, ToRS, KU.



The position includes communication, oral and written, with various Danish museums that the ArchaeoScience unit cooperates with and as such fluent written and spoken Danish is a must.

Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic staff scientist with the following competencies and experience:



Essential experience and skills

You have a PhD in Archaeology/Zooarchaeology or related
You have documented research experience in Zooarchaeological analysis
You have experience with fauna from Denmark and the Middle East
You administrative experience with running a unit like ArchaeoScience or similarly
Good English skills, written and spoken
Fluent Danish skills, written and spoken



Desirable experience and skills

Knowledge of carrying out scientific analysis on archaeological materials according to the guidelines of the Danish Ministry of Culture (Museumsloven, kap. 8)
A strong track-record in the analysis and publication of faunal remains from early agricultural societies in the Middle East
You have experience in communication and advising archaeologists and museums on the various scientific analysis available to archaeology today

Terms of salary and employment

The employment as ‘staff scientist’ (AC-TAP) is a full time and limited position for 5 months. Starting date is August 1st and will terminate without further notice December 31th 2020. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
