announces a competition for the position of an Assistant Professor in the group of research and teaching staff at the Institute of Archaeology at the Faculty of History and Archaeology UMCS

The competition may be entered by individuals who meet the requirements specified in the Act on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2022, item 574) and in the UMCS Statute of May 29, 2019, as amended.


- doctoral degree in the field of archaeology;

- candidate’s research and teaching aptitude proved with active participation in scientific life at the international level in the field of archeology of Eastern Europe and nomads between the early Iron Age and the Roman period, significant scientific achievements in this field (in particular a scientific monograph, scientific articles published in prestigious scientific journals, articles in reviewed post-conference materials);

- scientific achievements after doctoral degree;

- teaching and organizational experience;

- fluency in at least one Western European language;

- experience in managing and implementing interdisciplinary research projects focused on the archeology of Eastern Europe and nomads between the early Iron Age and the Roman period issues;


- full-time employment under an fixed-term employment contract from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023, in the primary workplace.

The competition will be settled no later than September 28, 2022

The university does not provide housing.

The settlement of the competition does not result in establishing an employment relationship. The decision on employment is made by the Rector. The University reserves the right to close the competition without a decision.

In accordance with Articles 15 to 21 and Article 77 of the General Data Protection Regulation, the data subject has the right to access, rectify, delete or limit processing, and the right to object to the processing, as well as to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, as well as the right to transfer data. The collected personal data will not be sold or made available to third parties, except for those authorized under the law, nor will they be transferred to third countries or international organizations, contrary to the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation.

The data will be processed by UMCS during the recruitment period, and in the case of data processed on the basis of consent, until a possible objection is raised or consent is withdrawn, and after that time for archival purposes, in accordance with UMCS procedures, as well as for the purposes and for the period and in to the extent required by law to secure any claims.
