Job Title: Visiting Assistant Professor, Classics
Is this a tenure track position? No
Position Status: Full-time 1 year
Position Summary:
The Classics Department at Colorado College invites applications for a full-time one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics, particularly from candidates with a strong background in material culture and able to teach Latin at all levels. Colorado College, a liberal arts institution that prizes innovative, interdisciplinary and student-focused teaching, operates on the Block Plan, where students take only one seminar-style class at a time for three and a half weeks and there are four such “blocks” per semester. The department is enthusiastically committed to diverse perspectives and inclusive and equitable practices and policies in support of the college’s antiracism commitment. The successful candidate will teach three blocks each semester, but one of the six total blocks may be substituted with teaching weekly adjunct courses both semesters that help students maintain their language-skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
We are especially interested in someone who could teach courses on at least two of the following subjects: archaeology, cultural heritage management, daily life, environment and sustainability, gender and sexuality, magic, or medicine. Candidates with experience teaching Latin preferred.
